Our neighbour, Anita, drove us to the airport. The sky was clear blue with a temperature of -23°C. We met former neighbours, John and Pam, in the Departures area and had a nice chat.
The temperature in Vancouver was +4°C, when we landed. The two-hour layover in Vancouver did not go as planned since one of our suitcases was selected for random checking and we waited in American Customs and Border Protection preclearance for 51 minutes until it was cleared, leaving us with only a five-minute wait at the gate before boarding the plane for the 3 ¼ hour flight to San Diego. At the gate we met again Victor & Bevanne, who had a 20 minute wait in American Customs, and were introduced to other Eurodam passengers: Richard & Maggie, Sheila and Caroline also taking the flight. We had planned to walk a little while near our gate, but instead were sitting waiting in Customs. 5791 steps
On the flight to San Diego, we watched Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book. The temperature was +17°C in San Diego. The suitcase that had delayed us in American Customs, did not arrive so Larry completed a baggage claim and was told that the suitcase would be on the next flight from Vancouver that arrives at midnight and would delivered to the hotel tomorrow. We took the Wyndham Hotel shuttle from the airport. It was a short 15 minute ride. The Wyndham Hotel is across the six lane street from the cruise terminal and the USS Midway Museum. After we checked in, we were directed to the welcome Desk and Rebecca advised on some of the sights of San Diego, most of them we had visited on previous visits and then told us how we could get a free breakfast and 18,000 Wyndham points or tickets to the USS Midway or some other “Gift” for attending a two hour “presentation” about Wyndham resort properties – read time shares properties - at the Wyndham Resort near Bilboa Park. We would be transported there and back.
We walked to Little Italy, just a 10-minute walk, for dinner at Petrini’s San Diego where we joined Sheila and Caroline. We had small pizzas.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at the Rite Aid pharmacy and bought two bottles of wine to take on the ship on Saturday.
We finished the day with 10,783 steps
